Upstate NY Cheesemaker Plans Nonprofit to Help Farms and Food Banks Amid COVID-19

The Messmer family runs Lively Run Dairy, which usually produces artisan cheese products in Seneca County. These days, their work looks a lot different.

They've raised more than $40,000 to buy milk from dairy farmers who, with nowhere to sell it, would otherwise have to dump it. They're taking that milk and making it into cheese, which they're donating to food banks.

Last week, they donated 450 lbs. of cheese to food banks in their area.
