NY to Begin Administering Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Overnight at Mass Vaccination Sites

New York State's COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout
New York state will begin administering the newly approved COVID-19 vaccine from pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson this week at three of the state’s mass vaccination sites, where they’ll be administered overnight.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, in a statement, said Tuesday that each of those sites will begin a pilot program for inoculating people in the overnight hours, freeing up more time for appointments.
“This pilot plan will maximize the initial doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and get as many shots in arms as possible,” Cuomo said.
The overnight vaccination appointments will be available at the Javits Center in Manhattan, the New York State Fair Site in Syracuse, and Yankee Stadium, which is only open to Bronx residents.
For Yankee Stadium, appointment slots will be online starting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, and the hours for vaccinations will be from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. That’s in addition to the site’s normal hours. Appointment
For both the Javits Center and the New York State Fair Site, appointments will go up online at 8 a.m. on Thursday. Javits will start its overnight hours at 9 p.m., and the fair site will begin at 10 a.m. Both sites finish the overnight shift at 6 a.m.
More than three million people have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in New York, according to the state, which is now administering more than 100,000 shots per day.
The Cuomo administration released new data on the demographics of who’s received a vaccine on Friday. The data showed that 79.2% of those who’ve been vaccinated are white, while 8.7% are Black, 10.5% are Asian, and 1.6% are defined as ‘other.’
