Redistricting battle continues

Email share

The ongoing battle over redistricting moved to the borough of Queens on Tuesday February 7, the site of one of the most contentious battles between Democrats and Republicans.

Holding the majority in the Senate by a slim 32-30 margin, the GOP drew the district lines which the Democrats says are egregiously gerrymandered to protect Republican senators.  Another matter concerning the proposed maps is the fact that six Democratic senators would currently have to primary one of their colleagues in their chamber under the new lines.  One of those senators who is paired up with a member of their conference is Queens Senator Tony Avella (D-Bayside), who got into a contentious exchange with Mike Nozzolio (R-Fayette) who is the Republican co-chair of the Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment.
