Hopping in a time machine with Senator John Flanagan

Email share

In a recent interview we conducted with Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (R-Long Island), we surprised him by showing video of himself as a young lawmaker.

The Suffolk County native was elected to the Assembly in 1986 to fill the seat his father held for 14 years.  The elder Flanagan died just weeks before the election.  The son won the race and has been in elected office ever since.

The video shows a then-33-year-old Flanagan, who could be mistaken for a young Robert F. Kennedy.  Incredibly, after seeing the short clip he remembered the exact committee meeting and what it was about.
