Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg announced earlier this year that he will be retiring, marking the end of 25 years of service for the Long Beach native.
Weisenberg, a former policeman, school administrator and lifeguard, is best known for his advocacy on the behalf of those with special needs. A father of five, including a son with cerebral palsy, he famously fought for the successful restoration of $120 million in last year's budget for the care of developmentally disabled children.
