Bill of Rights for adoptees pushed in Albany

Some adoptees, and some biological parents for that matter, go their whole lives without knowing each other.  There is legislation, if passed, that could change that here in New York.

Assembly bill 909/Senate bill 2490Awould allow adoptees to obtain their original birth certificate at the age of 18.  It would also give the biological parents a preference on how they would want to be contacted, if at all.  Advocates are calling it "a right" while those against are saying it would violate the promise of confidentiality mothers and fathers were given many years ago.
