Each week, we ask you how you feel about certain topical issues in New York state, and give you the chance to share your thoughts.
This week, we asked our viewers and readers if they were in favor of New York state borrowing $3 billion to respond to the effects of climate change.
That’s the $3 billion question that will be on the ballot this November, when voters in New York will be asked to approve the Restore Mother Nature Bond Act. If voters reject the idea, the state will not be allowed to borrow that money.
Individuals who responded to our survey were split on the idea. Here’s some of the responses we received.
(Note: These responses only represent the opinions held by the individuals who took the survey, and are not representative of a statewide analysis.)
- “Before I would support this initiative, I would want to know how much debt NY has issued, including state entities that can issue bonds, such as the dormitory authority, etc”
— Peter B., Schenectady
- “The climate situation is getting worse. This current President is making climate change happen faster than ever. Even President Nixon, as bad as he was, ended up doing good things for the environment. But - not this President!”
— Ricky L., Catskill
- “‘Climate change’ is a myth — quite frankly, borrowing money to fight it would be a waste of time — and if the voters of New York State are smart, they'd turn it down out of hand!”
— Robert M., the Bronx
Next week’s poll is now open for responses. We’re asking individuals how they feel about Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s response to protests over the death of George Floyd.
