Ida Updates: NYC Death Count Rises After Historic Rainfall Overwhelms Region

At least 21 people are dead in New York and New Jersey, following devastating floods brought by Tropical Storm Ida that continued to be felt on Thursday afternoon.

Eleven of the fatalities happened Queens, including a family of three in Woodside and an 86-year-old woman in Elmhurst. On Thursday afternoon, as many in the borough were bailing water out of their homes and cars, police discovered three additional bodies in a flooded basement apartment in Flushing.
