DEC Has More Responsibilities, Needs More Staff, NYS Comptroller Says

There's been a lot of growth in the Adirondacks in the last decade. More state land, more trails, more visitors, but there hasn't been a proportionate growth in DEC staff. That's part of the focus of a new report from New York Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, who says the DEC needs more resources to do its job.

"The staffing level is essentially flat over the past 10 years," DiNapoli said. "So at some point, you've got a more effectively-balance an expanded mandate and the resources to carry out that mandate."
