Tuesday marked the first day back to school for many students across upstate New York. For those attending in person, it was also their first time back in a classroom since the coronavirus pandemic began.
The start of school brings a flurry of emotion for students, parents and teachers even in a normal year. But this year is anything but. NCPR visited one Potsdam elementary school to document its first morning back.
At about 8 a.m. it’s the calm before the storm outside of Lawrence Avenue Elementary in Potsdam.
In about 30 minutes, the school will reopen its doors to hundreds of students who haven’t stepped foot in a classroom since March, when the coronavirus shuttered them.
