Trailblazer loses battle with breast cancer

Email share

You may remember a story we brought you a year ago that focused on New York City resident Hallie Leighton, who suffered from Stage IV breast cancer.   She fought to get the state legislature to pass a bill that would force doctors to notify patients if they had dense breast tissue, which can hide cancer during a mammography.  The measure eventually passed both houses and was signed by Governor Cuomo into law.

Sadly, Hallie's battle with her cancer, one that was missed during her annual mammography, ended on April 30th.   She leaves behind a legacy that could help save the lives of countless women.   Hallie Leighton was 42 years old.
