Senator Schumer blames gamers for swatting attacks

They call it ‘SWATTING.’

That’s when an anonymous individual calls in a false emergency to the police creating a costly and unnecessary response to nothing. These ‘ghost’ attacks are increasing and Senator Chuck Schumer is introducing federal legislation to stop it.

The bill would not only increase the penalty for making false calls from 1 to 8 years in jail but it would hold the perpetrator accountable for cost of wasted man-hours, which Senator Schumer says is in the tens of thousands.

He explains his theory for why ‘SWATTING’ is in the increase.
