Today longtime U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer endorsed freshman State Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk, who is in a tough re-election battle for her 46th District seat.
A Siena College Research Poll showed the Duanesburg Democrat down ten points in her rematch with Republican George Amedore. She won by only 18 votes two years ago and Senate Democrats are hoping to keep her seat if they have any chance of taking over as the chamber's majority party. Local Congressman Paul Tonko was also on hand to support Tkaczyk.
The Democrat pledged to fight for middle class values including the raising of the minimum wage and equal pay for women. She said there's been "a lot of lying and misinformation" from Republicans since she was elected because they, according to her, gerrymandered the 46th District with the specific purpose of getting 2012 candidate George Amedore elected two years ago.
