Dean Skelos re-elected as leader

In what was described as a unanimous vote, Republicans senator re-elected Long Island's Dean Skelos as their leader Tuesday afternoon.

Skelos has led the conference both in the majority, minority, and coalition government with the Independent Democrats since Joe Bruno's retirement in 2008.  The conference grabbed a clear majority after Election Day but there is still question as to whether they will once again form a partnership with the IDC.  Skelos said he will their leader Jeff Klein in the coming days to discuss this matter, one which his conference said they were open to.

The confident-sounding and looking senator met the Capitol press in the afternoon where he discussed a possible raise for state lawmakers, the chances of the Dream Act passing the chamber and his recent phone call with NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, who worked hard to get the Democrats to control the chamber. It was a move that ultimately failed.
