Conference of Mayors against consolidation plan

Email share

One of Governor Cuomo's State of the State proposals drawing scrutiny this past week was his consolidation initiative.

Cuomo's idea requires county officials to develop localized plans to help lower property taxes by "coordinating and eliminating duplicative services."  Taxpayers would then vote on the final product in a November referendum.

On Monday, the New York State Conference of Mayors came out against the plan calling it "just another top-down state mandate." Executive Director Peter Baynes joins our program this week to further explain.

POLL - Do you agree with the governor’s consolidation proposal?

We hope to see you this weekend on your local PBS station.
