Parents speak out at Common Core Meeting

The State Education Department had its first Common Core meeting Thursday in Albany after restructuring the format. This was in response to a contentious meeting in Poughkeepsie earlier this month that turned  into a shouting match.   Local Assemblywoman Pat Fahy and the League of Women Voters helped moderate the event.

Commissioner John King listened for three hours to parents, teachers and students about the controversial subject.  Most that spoke were not in favor of the new way students and teachers are being evaluated.   This was the first of series of new meetings that is expected to continue statewide.  Click on the video above for a sampling of the speakers.
